Skis

We went shopping today for some skis and didn't come home empty-handed. I got a pair of K2's and bindings, a new pair of boots and poles and bags for the boots and skis. We are supposed to go skiing next weekend at St. Anton's in Austria but all the snow appears to be in the US right now. Now that I have the skis, I'm sure it will all stay there!

The skis look kind of J-Lo as M. said and I would have preferred a different look to them. I like my skis to have red and black in them. They feel more aggressive that way and that makes me feel more aggressive. Apparently the ski manufacturers think otherwise. If you aren't buying serious racing skis they think as a woman you should want gray, pewter, powder blue, lavender, pink or white skis. They do the same thing to women's sneakers and I hate it. I was eyeing the kid next to me who had a cool black and bright yellow get up and wishing I could buy his skis. Mine are gray and silver and have scripty writing and some big silver nugget stuck in them. Yo, MTV skis! Anyway, I looked all over the store and online tonight and all I can say is there isn't much better out there unless I want to buy a ski well beyond my skills and pay a few hundred extra euros for them.

Note to Nike, K2 and other sneaker or ski makers for women: I was a tomboy. I grew up in Philly. I loved grunge in college. When I'm playing sports or skiing I don't want to look like I bought my stuff in the Barbie shop.

So, why did I buy the skis? One, like I said, that is the deal right now unless I want top end skis and really my skiing ability doesn't warrant that. Two, I'm tired of renting. Three, they seem to be quite good skis other than how they look. I'm pretty sure I'll be tearing down the mountain in them in no time. Wheeeeeeeeeee!

I totally agree on the color situation for women. I actually enjoy wearing pinks and the like, but when it comes to sporting activity, I want to feel aggressive, and pink/powder blue/etc just don't do it for me. Sometimes I buy kids shoes to get around the issue. Some of my friends buy men's shoes. Or when I feel really adventurous, I go to nikeid.com and pick my own colors!

I'll send some snow your way from The very white Pacific Northwest! We're still covered in the stuff -- but thank goodness the freeze has let up!

Have a great time -- when you finally get snow!

The silver nugget thing sounds pretty funny. Why don't they just put rhinestones all over it?? :b
Oh well, at least you have new skis!

For future reference Volkl has a LINE of skis that are for women who don't like to be "patronized with wimpy skis and girly graphics.
Fisher has gray and white ones, elan has bright green ones, dynastar has orange, nordica has orange and cream, blizzard's cmx pro iq's are red and black, fischer's rx8's are orange black white and green, rossingol's attraxion v are red and grungy, elan's fire magic fusions are orange black and red.

IF you got the "True Luv" or "Lotta Luv" from K2 perhaps you should have considered the "Burnin Luv"'s which look like they are on fire....

k, I got the One Luv skis and Nordica boots. I don't even know what boots I got. Everything was happening in German and at some point I decided to trust M. He has made me a much better skier already so I figured he would probably make sure I got good stuff. :)

Ah yes the one luvs. They are really nice for short turns and their rebound energy is high. They are really forgiving skis. It'll make you a better skier for sure.

Word on the street has it they arent the best on hard snow or ice... but I bet you avoid that anyway lol.

They are the same as the more expert skis but carry a lighter weight - Some of the metal is removed from the core.

Well rounded with their sidecut so you can go short or long with turns.

Anyway, M. probably made a good decision for you. They are great quick skis with lots of finesse.

Now I'll shut up :-)

When are you going to St Anton? We're going to be there the weekend of Dec 15-17! Small world, huh?
