Republicanism

Every Monday at the airport I stock up on freebie reading fodder at the airport. The Lufthansa lounge gives me Time and Newsweek and the general waiting area gives me the International Herald Tribune and USA Today. Without TV or many other means of mindless distraction I rely on these newspapers and magazines for brain roughage during the week.

Time had an article that had me giggling for some reason about how the Republicans aren't really going to get slammed this fall during the election. They have a secret strategy that was launched just 6 days after the last presidential election. One of their techniques is to take advantage of 'signs of potential latent Republicanism' such as snowmobile ownership and enrollment in private schools. They are microtargeting the population to get the desired voter participation in the already redistricted towns.

I kept thinking that there may be an accompanying drug ad on the opposite page for people suffering from latent Republicanism. Know the symtoms. Treatment is available. Consult a doctor before starting any treatment for Republicanism. Side effects may include swing voting.

I have to admit that I had never thought of the politics of snowmobile ownership before.

Speaking of elections, have you registered to absentee vote yet?

1. How is it a big secret if it is in Time?
2. Its no wonder other people see Americans as simple minded idiots if people swing vote based on snowmobiles...

The sad thing is that when I left the US for the first time in '97, expats were republican base...

Gee, I wonder how that changed.
