To Bern and Back

On Friday, I made attempt #1 to get my visa for India and was abruptly shot down. Granted it was a really rushed attempt and I'm kind of happy it didn't work out or I'd be on a plane bound for India as I write this, which I wasn't quite ready for. On the other hand, the whole process (American girl, Indian embassy, all in Switzerland) has the same feeling as trying to get a driver's license in Washington DC with all the bureaucracy and strict interpretation of the rules (side note: it took me three tries to get that license but they never broke me!).

Anyway, I return on Tuesday to Bern to try again and this time I think I have all the paperwork and receipts and photos in order. The trip is scheduled for this Saturday so hopefully that will leave me enough time for any loose ends. One more trip to Bern is more than enough for me since it's an hour drive from Basel and an all day process if the embassy accepts the paperwork.

Yesterday I headed home to Munich via Zurich and it was an absolutely beautiful day in Switzerland. Here is a shot from the train of the countryside. I really need to see more of Switzerland while I am working there.

The game had a one-hour rain delay and was a soggy mess (and I'm not just taking about the weather).
I fear the Sox are toast this year.
Damn Yankees.

Random side note on your DC license: did you know you can renew it from abroad (or at least one could a few years ago when I did it). Then you can turn it in for the resident's version without retaking the tests if you ever move back to DC. Something to keep in mind....
