Der April, Der April, Der macht was er will.
My sister and her boyfriend arrived on Saturday and it was bright and sunny and warm. But since then spring has come unsprung. It has been cold, windy and rainy the last couple of days and today we have several inches of snow. It's a bit of a disappointment since I wanted them to really see how beautiful it is in Munich and the surrounding Bavarian Alps, to enjoy a nice afternoon in a beer garden and a walk in the English garden. However, it is not to be. We are looking at options for evacuating to Italy where the weather is looking more promising.
On Saturday when it was nice, we had our first BBQ of the year (the final nail in the weather coffin). M. was beaming like a proud new father with his new grill. The food came out very well and we got to try out the BBQ sauce my sis brought over from the states.
Despite the weather, we have gotten to do a little site seeing with trips to Neuschwanstein and the Deutsche Museum. We shopped at Viktualienmarkt where there was a minor incident with some Stinky Pickles. We bundled up and took a very chilly walk around the English garden and Aldstadt and were able to sample some fine Bavarian cuisine.
Today really needs to be an indoor day with the snow and our visitors didn't pack for weather quite this severe. M. suggested taking them to the sauna but I'd prefer to not traumatize them too much on my sister's first trip to Europe (my first visit to a German sauna is a blog story in the making). Since my sister is a knitting maniac, I think we will see if we can find some nice shops so she can check out the European goods.
Meanwhile, a big pot of chicken noodle soup is on the stove and our Italy tour guide is out awaiting our decision...

We haven't had snow here, but most mornings have been around freezing.
Neuschwanstein is lovely, isn't it? I was there with family members in 2003. It had just snowed, but was sunny and I took some great photos.
We also used our BBQ for the first time this season on Friday night! I thought that meant spring was really here, but no, once again it's not to be... Basel continues to be cold and rainy...
Well as long as you guys are enjoying your company, I think that is what matters most. I so wished my family would have visited me in Switzeerrland while I was there. My cousin was the only one to visit and we had the time of our lives together.
We're waiting for your Sauna story...

The weather has cooled down again in Tokyo - but no snow...strangest spring in a while!
