Off to Munich
My first two weeks on the new project in Basel are over. They have gone by incredibly fast. There don't seem to be enough hours in the day to get everything done. The timelines we are working on are extremely aggressive and I think there are going to be some long hours coming in the next two months. I like a challenge but I think this is kind of unfortunate given that I am also trying to have a life here and there are so many other things I want to do besides work. Hopefully with a little clever planning and hard work during the weeks, I'll still be free on the weekends.
Anyway, I'm at the airport now, waiting to board my flight to Munich. I'm really looking forward to the weekend there. M. has a friend in town visiting on her way back from India to Chicago so we will be doing some entertaining. The most important thing to me though is that there is some downtime where I can just relax and also get to know Munich a little better. And I'd really love a trip to the sauna on Sunday.
All in all, I've enjoyed my time here so far. I had dinner with three of my colleagues last night from the UK, Brazil and Germany and feel that we are getting to be friends now. I have some leads on finding an apartment and with any luck will be able to look at a few next week. Getting out of the hotel will help me get a little more settled here in Basel. I've had my share of lessons learned the hard way and I'm sure there are many more to come but they make me laugh more than anything.
Hope you all have a great weekend! Also, thanks for all the good comments and suggestions - they certainly help!!

I love the fact that you can just catch the bus to get to the airport. And Basel is just all so close. That must be nice to take a very short flight to Munich. I'm sure you will enjoy a thermal bath. They've got great ones in Switzerland too. I think my favorite is in Zurzach. This time of year is so perfect for that sort of thing..
I'm sure you deserve a much needed weekend for catching up and relaxing.
hey michelle - glad to hear things are going well over there. know that i am thinking about you! have a nice restful weekend. make sure to rest!!! :)
It's hard, I know, but it is good to be free on the weekends. I didn't take that very sound advice and worked for the first 2 months that I was here basically 24/7 and missed out on a lot of great stuff; you don't want to miss getting to the mountains before the snow is gone!
Have a great weekend in Munich!
Glad things are going well for you. I was a bit surprised to find that you're flying to Munich. I would have thought that you would have taken the train back and forth.
