The Paperwork

I got started on all the paperwork for my visa today. It actually wasn't too bad. Some of the requests seemed a little odd. For example, they wanted a copy of my diploma or final transcripts. I guess they can't just trust that the company that is employing you has already determined whether or not you are qualified for the job. There were some other documents that I guess are standard to receive if you work in Europe or Switzerland that we don't always have as Americans.

All said and done, I think I will be able to have it all pulled together within a week. I hope this isn't one of those tip of the iceberg things. Based on all that I have heard I expect that there is much more fun to come.

In a little over a week I will see M. for my birthday. His birthday was last week. Two Sagittarius babies. Not that I believe in that stuff!! I mean, really. That's why it's perfectly harmless to check my horoscope from time to time. Did you ever notice how they are strangely accurate sometimes?

Anyway, the birthday plans are fairly low key since M. will be dealing with jet lag that weekend. Sunday morning we are going to a Gospel Brunch at the Corcoran Gallery that is supposed to be fantastic. Saturday morning we are going (at M.'s request) to The Diner in Adam's Morgan in DC. He loves a good, gut-wrenching American breakfast every so often. Inevitably he will blame me for the stomach ache afterwards but we'll still go. Saturday night I want to go to my favorite sushi restaurant in the world, Sushi Taro, in Dupont Circle. I need to go there one last time while I am working in DC and M. loves it too. Hmmm. Seems like we are very focused on what we are eating. Maybe we'll hit a club or two afterwards but nothing too high energy. There - now it's not all about food.

Michelle - I was sifting through all of your write ups. Wow you are going to LOVE Basel. I lived there for abou 8 months of my 2.5 years in Switzerland. I'd do anything to get another job that took me back there. I went to Switzerland to follow my dream and I told my parents it was something I wanted to do in my life. They have finally figured out that I'm an expat traveler. You are going to love everything about Switzerland and Munich. I can't wait to hear so much more.
